Canada, It’s Complicated

– an innovative new production by Mary Walsh (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, CODCO) – embarks on a national tour this fall, traveling to every Canadian province and territory.

Featuring sketches and satirical songs that examine the joys, foibles, tragedies, and triumphs of Canada as it is today and into the future, the show was written by some of the country’s leading comedians, musicians, and playwrights. It stars a diverse cast of young,up-and-coming performers representing a variety of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Evolving in real time to incorporate filmed performances and interviews shot in each region with local residents, Canada, It’s Complicated combines an original soundscape with a unique multimedia stage experience.

An All-Star Team for Canada, It’s Complicated.With acclaimed writer, director, and actor, and author of the current best-seller Crying for the Moon, Mary Walsh at the helm, Canada, It’s Complicated was written in collaboration with all-star Canadian comedians, musicians, and playwrights.

They include Derek Seguin of Montreal (2015 Sirius Top Comic), Tiffany Ayalik and Greyson Gritt of Quantum Tangle (2017 JUNO Award-winning music duo from Yellowknife, NT),Marie Clements (award-winning Métis playwright, performer, director, producer,screenwriter, BC), Thomas King (Governor eneral Award winner, novelist, and creator of CBC Radio’s Dead Dog Café),Mieko Ouchi (award-winning actor, director andplaywright, AB), Mike Allison (award-winning lead writer for This Hour has 22 Minutes, NS), Scott Montgomery (actor,producer, and writer, AB), and Trent McClellan (comedian, current cast member of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, ON).

The multimedia design for Canada, It’s Complicated has been created by Felix Fradet-Faguy and Normal Studio of Montreal. Fradet-Faguy works regularly with Normal as well as with Ex Machina, Canadian playwright Robert Lepage’s production company. Most recently with Ex Machina, Fradet-Faguy designed the images for Lepage’s acclaimed 2016 theatre production 887, winning the 2017 Toronto Theatre Critics award for Best Design.

PARKING : Metered street parking is available outside the centre (free after 5 PM & Sundays). One block south on Ellis Street, parking has been increased at the Library Parkade to 668 spaces, and Memorial Parkade to 519 spaces. Parkades are free after 6 PM except during special events. There is an Impark Lot at Prospera Place (access from Water or Cawston) and Impark Lot at the corner of Ellis and Cawston (access from Cawston).
