South Atrium Exhibition
Arlene Buick (Huxtable) enjoys trying multiple mediums. Her interest in art began with pencil drawings at a young age. They expanded to pen and ink, then watercolours, pastels and she is now pursuing acrylic painting.
The beauty of nature with all its colours and forms are inspiring to her. She is especially fascinated with the intricate pattern of tree branches. Lately, she has been intrigued by the contrast of a totally black background letting the colours of the painted object pop from the canvas.
Her training began at the University of Victoria in the Education program with a focus on Art Education. She used the training and her willingness to always experiment with art to inspire her students to stretch their abilities and to not give up when they were frustrated with the outcome of their work. She guided them to a finished product they were proud of and wanted to display in their homes.
Being retired has afforded Arlene the opportunity to explore her lifelong dream to become a professional artist. She is still exploring many mediums and ideas which feed her artistic excitement. Who knows where this will lead her in her future artistic expressions.
She will be showing in the South Atrium for the month of December with Carol Nelson Williams.
