EXHIBIT: Art Felt Collaborative, ‘Okanagan Arts Awards Sculptures’

April 3 @ 8:00 am - April 29 @ 8:00 pm

- Free

Display Cases Exhibition

Art Felt Collaborative is Amy Burkard, Diane Goossens, Judith Mueller, Alice Pallett, and Violet Racz – 5 contemporary Okanagan feltmakers who work both individually and collaboratively on larger projects.

The Art Felt Collaborative came together in April 2014 through their shared love of felting. The collaborative has created a fellowship where regular meetings and feedback has increased the range, inspiration and risk taking in the work of each artist.

The Art Felt Collaborative’s chosen medium is wool fibre, and the processes include wet felting, needle felting, nuno felting and fiber dying. The group is passionate about exploring the endless possibilities felting allows in their artistic creation.

The creation of the award sculptures for the 2017 Okanagan Arts Awards, presented by the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan came about through a process of both individual and collaborative work that worked to capture the essence of each of the 13 award categories.

“We referenced the Okanagan Art Awards categories and collected a library of words that embody the ideals of the categories represented; among them ‘soaring, dancing, sharing, excellence, reaching, striving, perseverance, talent, support, grounding.’  These words guided us in shaping the awards”, explain the artists.

The end result is a suite of sculptures that elegantly play off one another in form, colour and design.

The award sculptures will be presented to the winners of the Okanagan Arts Awards on May 12th, 2017 – visit artsco.ca to get your tickets to this exciting art event!
