Artists Among Us 2017
Seeking to Understand
Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna
The Artists Among Us art show celebrates the accomplishments of the participants of CMHA’s ArtWorks Studio as they strive toward and experience mental health recovery and wellbeing. The theme of this exhibit is “seeking to understand: to listen, learn and care”. It is our hope the exhibit will serve to challenge assumptions about people with mental illness, helping to remove the stigma and pave the way toward a more mentally healthy Kelowna.
The ArtWorks Studio is a safe and welcoming space for adults and seniors who wish to learn new skills, nurture the creative spirit, and have an avenue for self-expression. Many participants of the ArtWorks Studio have overcome isolation, experienced connection and community, and achieved a sense of belonging and purpose.
Local art instructors Tina Siddiqui, Lynne Turner, Amy Burkard, Fay Wolfenden, Natasha Harvey, Dylan Ranney and Amy Van Dongen worked alongside the ArtWorks Studio participants to create this body of work. It is only through the dedication of these local artists, our volunteers, and the generous support and donation from the Rotary Centre of the Arts, City of Kelowna, and sponsorship by MNP, that CMHA’s Artists Among Us 2017 could be experienced by the greater community.
