South Atrium Exhibition
These art pieces in the style of Cubist artists were created by the Visual Arts 10 students from Immaculata High School. After students gained an understanding and awareness for the cubist style by looking at examples of Picasso, Braque, and Gris, they created a multi-media composition showing multiple views of musical instruments. Students were encouraged to reduce the instruments into simpler forms, draw from multiple points of view, exaggerate the size, and use value in their colours. They were also instructed to fracture the planes in the manner of the cubists and to show a variety of textures – developing interest through contrasting pastel colours and added sheet music. This project really sparked the students’ individual ingenuity and inventiveness each definitely displayed their own unique style and workmanship in their piece.
