Kelowna Cycle presents:
A Film by Darcy Hennessey Turenne
Thursday February 1st 2017 8pm

Female directed “The Moment” to close Whistler Film Festival
Whistler, BC (November 8, 2017) – Darcy Hennessey Turenne, award-winning director from British Columbia, is poised to launch her new documentary THE MOMENT. Closing the Whistler Film Festival, December 3rd, her latest documentary feature film uncovers the origin of Freeride Mountain Biking, it’s provenance in British Columbia, and the rebellious group of backwoods adrenaline junkies that changed the course of a sport that nobody wanted.

THE MOMENT is a story that extends beyond the sport and into how this movement created one of the biggest tourism industries in British Columbia, and quickly became one of the fastest growing sports around the world.

This is the origin story of a small movement of mountain bikers and filmmakers who rose up, challenged the status quo, and turned the sport of cycling on it’s head: No rules, no sponsor, no claim. All they wanted was to feel free and ride their bicycles down the unthinkable. This is a story that has never been told, now being told by the people who lived it first hand.

Darcy Hennessey Turenne is an award-winning director from Vancouver, British Columbia. Darcy has written and directed short films, commercials, and music videos for clients ranging from Audi to Patagonia and Jive Records. Her first feature film, and environmental documentary featuring David Suzuki called THE LITTLE THINGS, won a host of awards and was picked up for the Banff World Tour. Her latest film, JACKIELAND, was accepted to the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

THE MOMENT’s significance to both tourism and the industry has been recognized and supported by a host of partners and stakeholders including Whistler Tourism, Kamloops Tourism, Rossland Tourism, Sunshine Coast Tourism, Rocky Mountain Bikes, Shimano, Dakine, Whistler Mountain Bike Park, Mountain Biking BC, Ryders Eyewear, Pinkbike.com, and more.
