Praised by the New York Times as “an artist who makes you hang on every note”, Robert deMaine is the Principal Cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. A highly sought after solo artist and chamber musician, he is a frequent guest of many of the world’s premier chamber music festivals including those at Marlboro, Seattle, Limoge, Heidelberg Schlossfest, Montreal, Piatigorsky Cello Festival and others. Robert deMaine has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Berlin Philharmonic, Wigmore Hall, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall. He won the Grand Prize at San Francisco’s Irving M. Klein Competition for Strings. His symphonic work includes principal cellist of the Detroit Symphony, guest principal cellist with the Toronto Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic (Norway) and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Robert deMaine records for Naxos, Chandos, Onyx, CBC, DSO, Elysium and Capstone.
Pianist Peter Takács performs widely, receiving praise for his penetrating and communicative interpretations. He was First Prize winner in the William Kapell International Piano Competition, received the Jackson Award for Excellence in Chamber Music at Tanglewood Music Center and a Solo Recitalist grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has been a Professor of Piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music since 1976. Peter Takács performed and recorded the complete cycle of Beethoven Piano Sonatas, released on Cambria Master Recordings, to critical acclaim. Robert deMaine and Peter Takács have recorded all of the Beethoven Cello Sonatas and Variations.
