The Rotary Centre for the Arts is a key cultural facility in Kelowna. Situated on the unceded territories of the Syilx/Okanagan People, it is operated by the Kelowna Visual and Performing Arts Centre Society. This frontline position provides excellent customer service to all visitors and will be responsible for assisting clients with their queries, box office ticketing, facility bookings, course registrations, and general reception. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting with administrative assistance for the Executive Director, cash management, and general office duties.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Experience and knowledge of cash management
  • Manage the composition of petty cash and floats
  • Must be bondable
  • Excellent organization, communication, and multi-tasking skills
  • Use of office equipment including computerized information entry and proficiency with technology in general
  • Ability to exercise courtesy, tact, diplomacy, and persuasion in responding to internal and external requests
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise independence of judgment in determining priorities
  • Operate a multi-line switchboard to receive and relay messages
  • Box office/ticketing experience 
  • Maintain office and client files
  • Maintain website, postings, and performance updates
  • Printing programs/brochures
  • Prepare mailouts and correspondence.
  • Work with the RCA team to provide general assistance to the public using the facilities, ensuring that regulations are observed 
  • Be responsible for all box office cash and non-cash transactions and submit a daily cashout and Spektrix/Square transaction report to the finance office
  • Issue and send invoices to customers related to the box office transactions
  • Collect the bi-weekly time sheets from all employees and pass them on to the finance office
  • Order administrative supplies and submit receipts to the finance office

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Artifax scheduling and Spektrix ticketing software considered an asset
  • Knowledge of other languages is also considered an asset
  • Be responsible for all box office cash and non-cash transactions and submit a daily cashout and Spektrix/Square transaction report to the finance office
  • Issue and send invoices to customers related to the box office transactions
  • Collect the bi-weekly time sheets from all employees and pass on to the finance office
  • Order administrative supplies and submit receipts to the finance office
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree preferred.

Rate of Pay: $19/hour

Regular business hours are 9 am to 5 pm. Flexibility required to occasionally work evenings and weekends.

Job Purpose 

The Rotary Centre for the Arts (RCA) is seeking a dedicated and passionate volunteer Event Photographer to join our team for the RCA Presents series. This role involves capturing high-quality images of various performances held at RCA throughout the season. The Event Photographer will play a crucial role in documenting and promoting the vibrant cultural events hosted at our centre.

Responsibilities: 

  • Attend and photograph approximately 15 performances per season as part of the RCA Presents series (a season may be divided by one or more photographers) 
  • Capture compelling and high-quality images that showcase the energy, emotion, and essence of each performance. 
  • Work closely with the RCA team to understand the schedule of events and specific requirements for each performance. This may involve photographing a sound check or rehearsal performance earlier in the day rather than the evening event. 
  • Arrive early to familiarize yourself with the venue, lighting conditions, and any specific instructions provided by the performers or event organizers. 
  • Utilize professional photography equipment and techniques to ensure excellent image quality in various settings, including stage performances, exhibitions, and special events.
  • Engage with performers, audience members, and staff professionally and courteously to create a positive experience for all involved. 
  • Edit and process images promptly after each event to ensure timely delivery for promotional and archival purposes. 
  • Maintain organized digital archives of all photographs taken during the season, adhering to RCA's file naming and storage protocols. 
  • Collaborate with the RCA marketing team to select and provide images for promotional materials, social media posts, website updates, and other marketing initiatives. 
  • Adhere to RCA's code of conduct, policies, and guidelines regarding photography, copyright, and privacy. 

Qualifications: 

  • Proficient photography skills and experience in event photography, preferably in a cultural or performing arts context. 
  • Own professional-grade photography equipment, including DSLR or mirrorless camera, lenses, and accessories. 
  • Strong understanding of photography techniques, including composition, lighting, and exposure settings. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of people. 
  • Reliable and punctual, with the ability to commit to attending scheduled performances throughout the season. 
  • Creative eye and artistic sensibility to capture the unique atmosphere and moments of each performance. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, taking direction and feedback constructively. 
  • Proficiency in photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop) for post-processing and retouching images. 
  • Knowledge of copyright laws, image licensing, and best practices for handling and distributing photographic content.
