Culture Days is a national campaign that promotes inclusivity, awareness, participation, and engagement in arts and culture in Canadian communities. Through an annual event full of free activities, Culture Days highlights the notion that culture is for everyone, regardless of age, geography, background, or income.
Culture Days was initiated by the Canadian Arts Summit in 2010, inspired by the success of Québec’s Journées de la culture weekend. It has since generated enthusiastic interest, participation, and support from a growing network of artists, organizations, municipalities, media, and both the private and public sector across Canada. After a decade of success, Culture Days has expanded beyond the weekend to support year-round communications initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector and inspiring public discourse about the value of arts and culture.
Culture Days is held during the last weekend of September each year. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Culture Days will be held-over an additional four weeks. National, provincial, and municipal events will take place between Friday, September 25 - Sunday, October 25, with Culture Days activities happening at the RCA September 25-27 and every Saturday in October (3, 10, 17, 24).
For the third year in a row, the RCA is acting as an official Culture Days Hub, offering several of our spaces, free of charge, to artists and arts and cultural organizations in the community to run Culture Days activities. Due to provincial guidelines regarding safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the RCA’s commitment to the health and safety of its artists, tenants, and guests, programming will be a combination of in-person and digital experiences.
A schedule of events for Culture Days at the RCA will be updated throughout the summer months.
If you are interested in having your activity or event scheduled to take place at the RCA during Culture Days 2020, please contact Elana Bizovie, Grants and Programs Coordinator (Culture Days), at firstname.lastname@example.org
before the end of day on Monday, August 10th.
In a commitment to remaining fully accessible, Culture Days activities are free of charge or by donation. To support our efforts in providing accessible programming to the community, while supporting artists, you can become a sponsor of Culture Days events at the RCA. Please connect with Elana Bizovie, Grants and Programs Coordinator (Culture Days), at email@example.com with interest.
