CMK 22/23 - Crow Chiu Duo
On December 3 in the Mary Irwin theatre, pre-eminent Canadian violinist Jonathan Crow will partner with pianist Philip Chiu to present a program of warm and evocative music they call “Two Canadians in Paris.” The program will include Louise Farrenc’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major, op. 39; an “Homage to Heifetz” with selections from Milhaud, Debussy, and Gershwin; a beautiful “Méditation” from Massenet; and the evening’s stunning centrepiece, the Gabriel Fauré “Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Major, op. 13.”
One of Canada’s brightest talents, Jonathan Crow is the Concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, having previously held the same role with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.. He has performed as a soloist with many Canadian orchestras, and has performed at chamber music festivals throughout North America, South America, and Europe. Philip Chiu has become one of Canada’s leading musicians through his infectious love of music and his passion for communication and collaboration. Lauded for the brilliance, colour and sensitivity of his playing, he is particularly noted for his ability to connect with audiences both on- and off-stage. Together, these two artists will offer an enticing and passionate concert not to be missed.
