Schemes and Deception: Film Screenings

The Okanagan International Film Festival (OKIFF) celebrates Canadian, international and Indigenous cinema while supporting the continued growth of the Okanagan’s film and television industry. By bringing filmmakers, audiences and industry leaders together, OKIFF creates opportunities for connection and collaboration while showcasing the region as a premier destination for film production and creative talent.

Films, in order of presentation:

Penny and the Sugary Scheme (Canada, language: English) 02:00 minutes
Meet Penny, a rascally robber with a bad case of insatiable greed! Follow her as she plots her latest scheme - stealing a delicious diamond at a crappy mini-mall. Will her risky behaviour be rewarded? Or has this mischievous thief's luck finally run out?

Picture's Up (Canada, language: English) 16:50 minutes
An emerging, stubborn TV producer is trying to cast an aging comedian for her first big show while hiding her true motive from him and her partners.

Diamond Belly (Canada, language: English) 10:00 minutes
Alex’s grandfather is dying of stomach cancer. When the old man starts claiming those aren't tumours, but pilfered diamonds from a long-forgotten heist in the old country, family secrets and myths collide as Alex grapples with her newfound inheritance resting in a dying man's stomach.

Flunked Up (Canada, language: English) 15:35 minutes
After butchering their final exam, two newly acquainted college students hatch a plan to steal and fix their answers.

Invasion of Qatar (Canada, language: English) 1:13:00 minutes, followed by Q&A
Invasion of Qatar follows Alex Frobez’s journey to the World Cup of Soccer in Qatar. Can he invade the field before he gets arrested and thrown in Qatari prison? Complicating things, he is also on a mission to reconnect with his father, a famous pitch invader in his own right, at the expense of his pregnant wife back home in Canada. This satirical film presents the tension between multi-billion dollar sporting events like the World Cup and the human rights abuses that go along with them.
