Abuse, Identity and Transformation: Film Screenings

The Okanagan International Film Festival (OKIFF) celebrates Canadian, international and Indigenous cinema while supporting the continued growth of the Okanagan’s film and television industry. By bringing filmmakers, audiences and industry leaders together, OKIFF creates opportunities for connection and collaboration while showcasing the region as a premier destination for film production and creative talent.

Films, in order of presentation:

Two Days of Danny (Canada, language: English) 12:00 minutes
When Hazel returns to her college house for two days, she is confronted by the memories of a toxic relationship that shaped her. As she moves through familiar spaces, past and present blur, forcing her to reconcile what was, what remains, and what must be left behind. Two Days of Danny is an anti-romance and coming of age story, a meditation on love, loss, and the lingering echoes of the past.

The Table Between Us (Canada, language: English) 14:47 minutes
Growing up in an abusive, volatile home, drove Celia (Anna Primiani) to marry a man just like her step-father. Now seven years after her husband's death at the hands of her sister, Lily (Nikki Rae Hallow) the sisters finally meet within the confines of the prison. As they sit across the table, tormented by guilt and past mistakes, they're forced to face their inner demons as they seek redemption and hope for a future together.

The Bed (Iran, language: Iranian) 14:24 minutes
Two young tenants think they are competing over a borrowed bed, but they slowly discover that it holds the painful memory of their landlord’s loss. Through one ordinary object, The BED becomes a quiet story of care, grief, and human dignity; a reminder that every person needs a place to rest, to be held, and to be remembered.

The Big Break (Canada, language: English) 4:45 minutes
The Big Break is a bittersweet dark comedy about a struggling actor, a weary partner, and the fine line between constructive criticism and emotional catastrophe. What begins as an audition rehearsal turns into a reckoning over love, creative ambition, and everything left unsaid.

The Journey (Israel, language: Hebrew) 20:26 minutes
Or, a young transgender woman in her early years, goes out with her two closest friends for the first time in female clothing to test her limits. The journey is disrupted by a car breakdown, past resentments towards her friends, and traumatic encounters on the public transportation they are forced to take.

Flames of Courage (Brazil, language: Portuguese) 33:17 minutes
In the city of Joinville, Brazil, Marcos, a volunteer firefighter, carries a silent pain after the loss of his wife. Now raising his son alone, he tries to rebuild his life while living with the scars left by the past.

But when a new emergency rekindles old fears, Marcos finds himself facing a difficult choice: answer the call to save lives or honor the promise he made to his son never to put himself at risk again. Flames of Courage is a dramatic short film about grief, fatherhood, courage, and the delicate line between duty and love.

Something Pointless (UK, language: English) 14:00 minutes
When a bullied young boy discovers an elderly man quietly covering a forgotten brick wall with painted eggshells, an unlikely friendship forms — and a “pointless” act becomes something transformative.
