Beyond Quilting
Artist Statement
The Orchard Valley Quilters are a group of creative and passionate people. The individual members experiment and play with fabric, needle, and thread, to create modern pieces, traditional quilts, textile art, bags, wearable art, or anything else they can imagine that can be made with fabric. They look to their surroundings to nature, people, architecture, books, and teachers for inspirations and fresh new approaches to push the boundaries of quilting and sewing.
Based in the Okanagan, the Orchard Valley Quilt Guild members maintain a strong commitment to community engagement. They give back to the community through making quilts for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kelowna General Hospital, hearts for Hospice, Christmas stockings for Salvation Army, as well as filling other needs for quilts as they arise. They are willing to show their quilts to groups that are interested in talking about quilting. The guild members welcome newcomers and visitors.
The guild meets every Tuesday morning between 9 am to 12 noon from September to May at Okanagan Mission Hall, 4409 Lakeshore Road. The website is www.kelownaquilts.com.
