Atrium, Rotary Centre for the Arts.
An extension of the Beauty in the Beast exhibit, the RCA atrium glass showcases feature the work of metal artist Becky TenVeen.
For Becky an object is never only what it appears to be on the surface.
Shortly after starting her welding career 11 years ago, she began collecting and combining scrap metal to create sculptures. Each piece is one of a kind and as unique as the parts that compose it, coming anywhere from a friend's garage to an ocean clean up. A pipe wrench becomes a crab claw, plier handles become bee antennas and a fuel filter becomes an octopus mantle. Becky takes what would be considered trash by most and gives it new life.
Becky has made a variety of different themed pieces, she is a self proclaimed nature nerd and animals remain her favorite subjects to create. Her work can be found in four Art for Change exhibits, on Instagram @wingnutwhimsy or in person at Karmyc Bazaar in Kelowna.
