Judith A. Frigon Vines and Vistas

In the Atrium

Artist Statement

My art is a personal expression of gratitude. I see the world in all its glory and hope to capture just a bit of the surrounding magic. I love trying to capture the mood, the dappled light, the textures, and the ever-changing colors with a vibrant palette.

My studio overlooks Lake Okanagan, Cedar Creek vineyards, and Kettle Valley. With big skies, lakes, and mountains, these uniquely Canadian vistas are a constant source of ‘eye candy' and a reminder to put a brush in hand and create. My first paintings were works that attempted to depict the magnificent sunsets.

I wonder, is it possible to capture the entirety of the skies that were set afire? I love the challenge.

Hikes on quiet forest trails while searching for local waterfalls, vineyards, and orchards offer consistent inspiration for me. The Okanagan never fails to inspire. I am living my dream. I am living in the world of art. I am grateful.

Artist Biography

Judith Frigon is a Kelowna-based artist whose work is inspired by the unique Canadian landscapes of the Okanagan. Like the Group of Seven, she believes that direct contact with nature results in a distinctly Canadian style of art.

Judith works primarily with acrylics on large canvases and tries to capture the diverse landscapes that surround those who are fortunate to call British Columbia their home. After graduating from the Alberta College of Art, Judith enjoyed working as a graphic designer and illustrator. She continued her studies in Fine Arts and Education and loved teaching Art.

Judith was always passionate about painting portraits and landscapes, and upon retirement, she moved to Kelowna where she currently spends her days following her dreams.

The pandemic has profoundly affected our lives, but limitations have provided opportunities to spend more time in our own backyards and to find peace in nature and our studios. Judith’s work over the past couple of years expresses her intentions to connect more closely to the earth and to celebrate the gifts we have been given. Her work is a personal expression of her gratitude. As an emerging painter, Judith has exhibited her works in community galleries in Vancouver and hopes to show her works in the Okanagan.
