Through the Window

Artist Statement

This show is structured around the emptiness, void, and change that one can witness when looking out of a window today. The streets are not busy, exciting views of people and events are rare. When I look out the window of my home or down strange streets, there is no longer the same sense of movement. Looking through the windows of my car while traveling, I sometimes see the gray death of all that I hold dear.

Where have all the children gone? People walk their dogs, sometimes with children. The sounds have stopped. I no longer hear children playing, giggling, or squealing. I no longer see balls, jacks, marbles, or even hopscotch markings. When I look through my windows, I see mothers towing children with one hand while talking on their phones. I see teens bent over their computers, looking at the same screen. I see myself reaching onto this window, this computer, to help myself believe that maybe tomorrow, some of life's simple joys will come back.
