The Founder Effect

13+ | September 24th | 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm | Mary Irwin Theatre

Presented by the RCA in partnership with Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmaking (OSIF)

RCA and OSIF present the multi-international award-winning movie ‘The Founder Effect’. Making its Kelowna debut at the Mary Irwin Theatre, the dramatic film, directed and produced by Kelowna-raised brothers Justin and Kris MacGregor respectively, is set in Hope, BC. When a boy goes missing, his grandfather must confront their family history and mysterious phenomena.

"The Oner Contest" is a filmmaking contest designed to test the skills of OSIF filmmakers by creating a unique short film in a single long take. No tricky editing techniques, no unbroken shots, just a well-planned, well-blocked, well-rehearsed scene. We will be screening the top ‘Oner’ films, and handing out the $500 grand prize to the winner before the screening of "The Founder Effect".

The film's director and producer will be present for a Q&A following the screening.

6:30 PM - "The Oner Contest" screening
7:00 PM - Intro, Dan Tait performance and film screening
9:00 PM - Filmmaker Q&A

Filmmakers' Biography:

The MacGregor brothers are best known for their feature films BEST F(R)IENDS Volumes 1 + 2—the cinematic reunion of cult legends Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero of THE ROOM fame, Justin's first feature film THE GENERATIONS, and their commercial videography and music video work spanning the past decade. Keen students of cinema, Justin and Kris seek out creative avenues lesser taken, always striving to promulgate new imagery and unexplored perspectives, all the while pushing the boundaries of homegrown independent filmmaking. The brothers grew up in the Okanagan, both graduates of Kelowna Secondary School. They are the co-founders of Roguescots, a commercial videography and narrative film production house, based in Vancouver.

Dan Tait Biography

Okanagan-based singer/songwriter Dan Tait’s lyrical prowess and musical finesse have garnered him acclaim across the Canadian music landscape. His unique storytelling and performing abilities made him a perfect fit for THE FOUNDER EFFECT as both a cast member, and as a musical artist. His original track ‘Heavenly Song’ was written specifically for the film and truly taps into the soul of the narrative.
