As back-to-school season approaches, you may be looking for an after-school activity, to pick up a new skill, or to refine an old craft. At the RCA, we’re excited to launch our new fall activities for both youth and adults! Whether you're looking to refine your technique, or you're a first-timer looking to develop a new hobby, our programs have something for everyone. Dive into the world of acrylic painting, lace up your dancing shoes, or pick up your crocheting needles. All our programs are taught by practicing artist-instructors who are ready to help you on your journey into the arts.
Adult Activities
September starts off with a returning favourite – Beyond the Music (Wednesdays, September 4 – December 18, 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM). Launched in 2022, Beyond the Music is a space for individuals living with diverse abilities to explore the joys of music. Each session is led by a certified music therapists from Soul Sounds Music Therapy, a partner-owned music therapy business based in Kelowna focusing on holistic well-being and person-centered care. Join in an inclusive and empowering space to connect, share, and express yourself, with no musical experience required. Read more about the impact of Beyond the Music here.
Learn the fiery art of Flamenco dancing this fall in Flamenco Beginner (Mondays, September 9 – November 4, 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM) with Tascheleia Marangoni. This dance, full of passion and history, will be the perfect fall activity to get you movin’. Already have some Flamenco experience? Register for Flamenco Continuing (Tuesdays, September 10 – October 29, 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM) and expand your dancing skills. Tascheleia is ready to guide you through these invigorating courses.
Angie Marchinkow is back with a handful of art classes, starting with Painting with Pastels (Monday, September 9 & Tuesday September 10, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM). In this 2-day workshop, Angie will guide you through various techniques using pastels create beautiful, layered works of art. Explore all the different ways you can use pastels!
A new series at the RCA is our Kizomba and Semba (Thursdays, September 12 – October 3, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM) workshop with Rachid Ahmed. Having a good grasp on the basics is key to dancing Kizomba and Semba. This class focuses exactly on that. You’ll have the opportunity to learn the steps and movements, develop an understanding of the different music styles included in the 'Kizomba universe,' and become a more comfortable dancer. We’re excited to welcome Rachid to our team of talented instructors!
Creature Feature (Mondays, September 16 – October 14, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM) is another brand-new activity being added to the roster, and we’re thrilled to be joined by artist Bailey Koopmans. In this workshop you'll discover the secrets of how the pros create the designs of your favorite characters. Participants will get to explore how to build a creature character step-by-step, giving it personality and flair.
Sound Bath (Fridays, September 27 – November 8, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM) with Karlee Rose returns for another round of relaxation. Settle into a cozy position as quartz crystal singing bowls gently guide your mind to connect to your body. Sound baths are not only a great way to relax, but they can also be used to address stress, anxiety, depression, physical ailments, and promoting overall wellness.

Youth Activities
Our list of workshops wouldn’t be complete without After School Anime (Thursdays, September 5 – October 24, 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM) with Brock Gratz! Back for its 4th year, Brock is ready to help you express your love of anime through art. This course focuses on the various mediums used in anime drawing and is intended to build artistic confidence while creating a space for youth and teens with common interests to make friends and share ideas with peers.
Bailey Koopmans will also be offering a youth edition Creature Feature (Tuesdays, September 17 – October 15, 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM). In this 5-week course, those 12 and up will engage in lively discussion and drawing exercises that explore putting concept to creation. You'll go from simple ideas to confidently constructing creature characters, that not only look good, but tell a story through their design.
Further down our schedule is Crocheting (Thursdays, November 7 – 21, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM) with Katie Jansen, another amazing addition to our instructor team. Even though you’ll be learning how to create what are called “granny squares”, crocheting isn’t just for grannies! Don’t miss your chance to experience this unique and timeless art form. Also available for adults – Thursdays October 13 – 17, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

Family Activities
Get the whole family together for our new all ages activities. On Saturday, October 19, join our 1-day workshop creating polymer clay faces with Bailey Koopmans. As you work side-by-side, you'll share laughter, encouragement and creativity as you make memories that will last beyond the workshop.
