Every season, we have the joy of welcoming new exhibitions to the RCA Gallery and celebrating their launch with a wonderful reception with the community. Patrons filled the Rotary Centre for the Arts to celebrate three exhibitions that showcase the artistic spirit of our region.
We were honoured to receive a blessing from elder Tahti Nipin Piyasis Nahkotah, Dorothy Goodeye, graciously arranged by the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society. Guests mingled throughout the galleries, connecting with the art and each other, while a silent auction for one of Alex Fong's pieces added excitement to the celebration.
We're grateful to our exhibitors - Alex Fong, the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society, Global Citizen Events and everyone who joined us. The galleries are open throughout summer, with select pieces available for purchase. Whether you missed the opening or want to return, these three exhibitions offer something for everyone visiting downtown Kelowna.
Step Into Alex Fong's Whimsical World titled ...on a good day...
Alex Fong's watercolour world stirs the imagination with light and colour, wonder and whimsy. Bountiful orchards, vineyards and gardens teem with birds and animals. His work offers a vibrant perspective that adds to the diverse voices in the RCA galleries, inviting viewers into a dreamlike world of colour and joy.
Honouring Indigenous Voices and Heritage
The South Atrium and Mezzanine feature "Celebrating Okanagan's Urban Indigenous Artists," presented by the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society (KFS). Leanna Curtis, the Indigenous Health Coordinator at KFS and an artist herself, was an essential part of organizing and installing the artwork. Her vision and passion for healing through the arts helped to shape the curation of the exhibition. This exhibition brings together work from Indigenous artists living in the Okanagan. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, beadwork, fiber arts, macrame, and more. Their work draws inspiration from the land, ancestors, animals, and stories of Indigenous heritage.
Young Voices, Big Dreams
The First Floor Studio Hallway displays "And Still We Dream," curated by Kaelin Davis. This collection features work by artists aged 5 to 25 from across the Okanagan, created through the Arts for Social Change program. These young artists address the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals through their art. The pieces tackle social and environmental issues, showing how the next generation views challenges facing the world.
All three exhibitions are open throughout summer, admission is free and select pieces from the exhibitions are available for purchase. Whether you're a local resident, summer visitor, or art collector, these exhibitions provide an opportunity to discover work while supporting local and regional artists.
The galleries are open during regular building hours with no advance booking required.
Supporting Local Artists
From Alex Fong's watercolors to Indigenous artists' cultural expressions and young people's social commentary, these exhibitions represent the diversity and talent in our region. Purchasing artwork means you support the artists directly and become part of the local arts community.
