RCA@Home Social Clubs It's like a book club for arts and culture!

At the RCA, we continue to support our vision to be the heart of Kelowna’s arts and culture experience. During this period, we’re staying connected with our community by creating online opportunities to share and discuss what we love – theatre, music, art and film.

Join an RCA@Home Social Club!

The RCA@Home Social Clubs are open to anyone to join in the conversation. It’s like joining a rad book club, but for arts and culture!

Each Club covers a different area of interest, with a host to moderate and up to 12 participants. A topic, performance, or recommendation will be selected every second week and members will watch/listen in their own time before meeting with the rest of the group for a discussion. The Clubs launched on Monday, May 25, and will run every second week moving forward.

DOCUMENTARY FILMS with Trophy Ewila

Trophy Ewila is a program coordinator at RCA and a story enthusiast with a recent interest in film and filmmaking.

A good story makes you forget the idea of yourself. It can also reintroduce an idea of who you could be. This is a power of film and it must be explored." Join Trophy in exploring the stories and storytellers that have shaped culture. ‘Our lives are just another story. We are stories.'

I would like to encourage all members to make suggestions of what films to explore and look forward to having local filmmakers share insight into the art of filmmaking.

TOY THEATRE with Neil Cadger

What happens when theatre artists have to stay at home because of a pandemic?

This discussion will focus on one form of theatrical expression particularly well-suited to the internet: DIY toy theatre. Toy theatre, also called paper theatre and model theatre is a form of miniature theatre dating back to the early 19th century in Europe.

Join Neil Cadger for this fun and surprising look at toy theatre. Neil is a performer, director, teacher, and graduate of l’école Jacques Lecoq in Paris, France. He founded Wissel Theatre in Gent, Belgium in 1984 and created theatre performances which toured extensively in Europe. He co-founded Inner Fish Performance Company with Denise Kenney in 2011 to provide an infrastructure for producing and touring devised performances.  In 2017, he founded the Living Things International Arts Festival which presents local, regional, national and international performances.
