Seeing Things
Artist Statement
Self-improvement, personal growth... as adults we are constantly faced with opportunities to look at how we operate, become a little more self-aware, and challenge oneself to try new choices that may develop into more aligned habits. Instead of left, try right; instead of down, try going up. Instead of red, try blue?
We are often taking at least part of the day for granted, without even realising it. We repeat most of our actions and habits, and wonder why our lives haven’t changed for the better.
As we each apply paint to our canvases, we consider this participation in life. We feel our habits and comforts, and attempt to rebalance trusted methods with the thrill of the unknown through experimentation. Art is created from this trust, and it's a spiritual experience where explanation often interferes with process. It is not a matter of design, though technique and intentional composition choices are used to effectively access emotion and expression.
The colours, textures, and density of composition in each of our bodies of work are ongoing reflections of our interpretations of recent lived experiences. This includes the remembered and relived experiences that continue to play a guiding role in how we make decisions and behave and feel every day. Patterns emerge through these efforts of going against the norm.
What happened today? What did you dwell on? What did you plan? These tensions and excitements all dance together, determining the tensions and excitements and artistic movements in your arms and hands, as well as the preferences of your artistic eye.
Art is an action, a participation, and a materialization of all that is without and within. It invites new audiences, new perspectives and interpretations, in order to give it purpose. We invite yours.

Angie Marchinkow (b. 1985) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist and writer based in the lakeside city of Kelowna, nestled amongst the scenic mountain ranges and valleys of British Columbia.
She collaborates with other musicians, artists, and photographers to celebrate personal expression. As an abstract painter and muralist, songwriter, vocalist, and photographer, her range of work can be found in all sorts of projects, songs, and private and commercial collections. When working with paint, she draws inspiration for her intuitive abstract works from a focus on her internal emotional dialogue, creating a visual interpretation of her lived experiences. Hand in hand with her poetic writing, her words have become a means of unfolding layers of what she paints on the canvas. Embracing her impulsive and nonlinear train of thought, she sheds light on the full spectrum of deep emotion and what it means to be unabashedly human. To her, "painting is about seeing before you, what is felt or seen within.”

Alongside her freelance practice, Liz currently works in software development and places strong value on user experience, seamless interaction, and visual clarity. These values carry through in everything she does, and she approaches her art practice with the same focus: balance, colour intelligence, composition, and the desire to create something that feels alive, memorable, and built to last. At the heart of her work is a deep care for how art is experienced. Liz is fascinated by the somatic and emotional impact of visual language; how colour, scale, rhythm, and form can create visceral responses, anchor memory, and shape how people feel in a space. Liz designs and paints artwork to be felt, and she creates moments of connection, presence, and lasting impression for the viewer, the user, and the environment the work inhabits. Liz takes you into her world, and shares a piece of the imaginative way that she explores form, color, and texture; inviting you to see things in a new way.
